"When I was a teenager growing up in Santa Cruz, CA, I was surfing almost every day. During winter, when the waves were best, after it rained the ocean would become dirty. Then I would get sick.
It became obvious that much of the pollution came from run-off caused by rainwater washing off dirty impervious surfaces. It dawned on me that if all that rain was captured stored or infiltrated into the soil, then the ocean might be clean again. I was determined to make this a reality!"

Early on in life, Lizandro recognized that water is the most crucial resource to conserve and protect. He passionately pursued a degree in Environmental Studies with an emphasis on engineering, and soon thereafter began collaborating with well known water-saving pioneer and landscape architect, Bobby Markowitz. Markowitz, a former student of permaculture founder Bill Mollison, had been experimenting with water conservation technology since the early 70's.
Lizandro spent years working with Earthcraft Design, an award winning design, consultation, and project management design firm specializing in rainwater catchment systems and net zero landscape design. While working at Earthcraft Design he also participated in numerous educational community outreach projects including lectures at community colleges and hands on workshops for professionals.
Lizandro started Rain Harvest Systems, LLC in 2011 based on a dedicated vision to offer the latest innovative and aesthetic designs with complete attention to detail and consistent client satisfaction.
